Theirs is the clash and attraction of strong personalities who both believe they know what is right, and whose pride often come between them. No saving grace can salvage the whole book from the heroine. However, Raphael, the current Archangel, who is corrupt and uses his position for himself, does not want to step down.
He could be an example of shimn emptiness of evil, and at the same time represent how the Church views its heretics as evil, regardless of the actual content of these “heretical” views.
However, the romantic elements took a far back seat to the politics of a desert land called Samaria, and these politics weren’t very interesting. They really were at each others’ throats to the very end, and I found Rachel to be just a little too stubborn and unreasonable.
Gabriel, who knows that Jovah will hurl firebolts should the Gloria fail, has other ideas. Rachel, however, proves elusive to find.

Okay, my issues are political.
Then, quite by accident, he comes upon her in the house of a rich nobleman, where she is a slave. So when Gabriel finally locates her and announces that she is to occupy the most exalted female role in Samaria, she is not inclined to accept his proposal.
The story started off with Gabriel and Rachel being shinj. That made the entire thing very compelling, even considering the so-so romance aspect.
She writes beautifully and thoughtfully, and her books are equally satisfying to both fantasy and romance readers. I didn’t find the religious themes too naus The first time I read this, I must have been aroun Books with missing cover. But as the story went on, I began to sympathize and feel so sorry for Gabriel.
